Nothing could be more romantic than a wedding on the beautiful island of Maui at The Four Seasons Resort, Wailea. When Los Angeles actress and model Jami Miller arrived on the set of a music video for the rock band Hinder in March, 2007, she had no idea this day would be a prelude to her wedding in Hawaii. Within moments of her introduction to singer Austin Winkler, she was pleasantly surprised there was something “indescribable and special” between them. “We were instantly drawn to each another,” she says.
Beverly Hills wedding designer, Renee Strauss for the Platinum Bride, traveled with the couple to Hawaii for a site inspection prior to the big day. “The first time we checked out the island of Maui, it was a done deal,” Renee says. “The Four Seasons was Jami and Austin’s top choice for service, fine dining and locale.” The California couple invited family and friends to join them for an intimate celebration in Hawaii. “We’ve always loved Maui—it’s like heaven on earth,” Jami says.
Out-of-town guests arrived to find welcome bags full of chocolate covered macadamia nuts, beach supplies, suntan oil and a fabulous weekend itinerary. The rehearsal dinner at Roy’s Restaurant in Kihei was thoroughly island-style: an evening of Hawaiian fusion cuisine, contemporary music and close friends. The wedding ceremony was held the following afternoon in the courtyard at the Four Seasons Resort Wailea, one of the world’s most luxurious beachside destinations where picture-postcard views abound. The couple envisioned a sophisticated sense of romance for their wedding day, a setting that was glamorous and vivacious to convey their personal joie de vivre. Everything, from the deep red color palette to the script typography on the stationery, was inspired by rock ‘n roll opulence. Vera Wang bridesmaid dresses in a smokey blue established the alluring palette of the day. “It was important to Jami and Austin that we glorify the visual paradise with the most elegant of details, and not simply embrace the tropical ambience,” Renee says.
While most brides-to-be have an idea of what they might wear on their wedding day, Jami’s quest for the perfect dress wasn’t as easy. She enlisted the expertise of Liancarlo Couture Bridal to help conceive and design a custom made gown. Using the finest French Lyon lace and embroideries marked by Swarovski crystals, her stunning vision was soon realized. A spectacular veil imported from Sicily was the perfect complement. She held a tight dome of Black Magic roses interspersed with mini calla lilies and deep burgundy cymbidiums. Austin and his groomsmen made an attractive entourage wearing sleek black Calvin Klein suits. A flowing canopy of silk was draped to encase the bottom of the flagstone staircase where Jami would make her grand entrance. A velvety aisle of rose petals led to a magnificent altar overflowing with opulent flowers. “We initially staged the floral arrangements in Beverly Hills to master the look,” Jami says. “The floral designers at the Four Seasons did an amazing job!”
After a heartfelt ceremony, it was time to celebrate. A signature cocktail fittingly called “the blushing bride” was served to all. Large-scale engagement pictures of the pair captured by wedding photographer Bill Stockwell hung on the walls to designate the cocktail space. Jami entered the Four Season’s ballroom in a flirty mini dress custom made by Liancarlo Couture Bridal, and René Caovilla heels. A truly eye-catching yellow diamond Tacori necklace added just the right sparkle. Renee and her design staff layered rich colors and velvet textures in the reception space to capture the dramatic mood of the day. Deep red votive candles cast a warm glow. Renee says, “They wanted a true red to illuminate the room.” Lush arrangements of Black Magic roses, Charlene roses, Tinto roses, Charlotte roses and Antique hydrangea adorned each lavish table. The wedding stationery, designed by Just Robin Grand Invitations, matched the merlot-red and ivory hues. The design included a Victorian cross bejeweled with rhinestones, a motif carried throughout the décor. For wedding favors, a perfectly scripted monogram label was placed on the couple’s favorite bottle of champagne then gifted to each guest.
The party dined on an elaborate five-course spread including black pepper filet mignon, pistou soup, chiliglazed mahi mahi and seared tuna. A scrumptious array of desserts including warm chocolate cake, lilikoi coulis and white chocolate macadamia nut mousse were savored before dancing commenced. The newlyweds hardly left the dance floor the entire evening! An exotic honeymoon to the Likuliku Lagoon Resort in Fiji ended the rock ‘n roll celebration on the perfect note.
